Internships
General Information
GBC welcomes applications for internships from qualified undergraduates as well as graduate students and those between degrees.
We are looking for applicants primarily who are students of health policy, public policy, international and public affairs, business, communications, economics and political sciences. We choose those who we believe to be the most suitable candidates, based on their academic work, extracurricular activities, employment and experience through travel or voluntary work. Fluency in more than one language is highly desirable in a candidate.
Intern Responsibilities
Internships are offered in each of the following departments: Communications & External Affairs, Corporate Strategies & Member Services, Knowledge, Evaluation and Performance, Policy & Research, and Executive Office. The responsibilities in these areas are outlined in more detail on the following pages.
Time Commitment and Stipend
GBC accepts intern applications year-round, however we only hire for 3 sessions: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Below is an outline of the dates for each session and when applications will be reviewed for those sessions. We will make exceptions on scheduling in the case of exceptionally qualified candidates or in the case of school mid-term and finals exams for students enrolled in classes. We also offer the opportunity to extend internships from one session to another, based on performance in the first session.
Listed below is the standard schedule for internship sessions
Fall
Internship Dates: September - December
Application Review Dates: July - August
Spring
Internship Dates: January - April
Application Review Dates: November - December
Summer
Application Review Dates: March - April
Internship Dates: May - August
Schedules may vary, but full-time interns are expected to work 40 hours per week and part-timers work 8-20 hours per week. Candidates may need to work flexible hours since events and project activities vary throughout the year and are not always predictable.
GBC offers a stipend of $200/week for full-time interns, and a $100/week stipend for part-time interns. Course credit or supplemental grants may also be available, so please check with your University's Director of Career Services.
Application Process
To apply, please complete an internship application and submit it along with a cover letter and CV or resume to the appropriate department contact in the department you are most interested in joining. Candidates should specify if they have an area of interest in the subject line of the email.
